George Washington Carver once said that "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom." It is of that same principle that I am in college today. I was instilled with the mindset that being educated would open a lot of doors and bring about a lot of opportunities for me. The desire I have to read and write not only brought me to study English, but also the vast knowledge and artistry that comes along with it. The world has evolved remarkably over the past few centuries. Its unceasing change has made an impact on the wisdom in society immensely. Thus, I feel I owe it to myself to explore the knowledge that has influenced many of the decisions in my life; one being to become an attorney. Although I have faith and plans for my future, I am repeatedly in conflict with myself about whether or not I set my standards too high. I repeatedly worry about if the decisions that I am making are helping or hindering my ultimate goal for success. Being in a higher education environment adds pressure because I am around people with the same goal as I, which makes me ponder if I should look at them as colleagues or competition. Sometimes I lack the courage and belief in myself. Marianne Williamson once said that “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Every day I read this quote that is posted on my wall and remember that I can conquer anything thrown my way. Thus, I have learned that just by wanting to obtain an education and further my knowledge of life that I am capable and strong enough to do it.
