Edgar Allan Poe is an American author who has been very popular for many years even after his death. He was a very diverse writer and wrote short stories, poetry, a novel, a textbook, a book of scientific theory, and hundreds of essays and book reviews. His writing was very mysterious which fits his lifestyle very well. Poe’s parents had both left him or died by the time he was about three years old. His death still remains a mystery, as well. Poe’s life and writing set him apart as a noteworthy American author. Edgar Allan Poe was known for his mysterious style of writing. His childhood is said to have influenced a lot of his emotions that contributed to his writing. Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. He was in a very unfortunate situation when he was younger because his father left their family in 1809, and his mother died a year later. He was then taken into the home of John Allan although he was never officially adopted by him. His relationships also put a damper on his emotions. He attended the University of Virginia in 1826 but only lasted there for a year because he was so far in debt from gambling. When he returned back home, he discovered that his fiancee had instead married someone else. He didn’t dare return back to Richmond, so instead Poe moved to Boston.
