1. How does e-Business differ from e-Commerce? Give a definition for e-Commerce and examples to explain the differences.

E-Business is the conduct of transactions by means of electronic communications networks (e.g., via the Internet and/or possibly private networks) end-to-end. E-Commerce is a part of e-Business, which has to do with the buying and selling of goods and services, and the transfer of funds through digital communications. E-Business is different from e-Commerce because it deals with digital transactions and processes within a firm, involving information systems under the firm’s control. An example of an e-Commerce company would be Under Armour. Under Armour would be considered an e-Commerce company because of the way their website is designed. Their website allows customers to shop and buy their products and pay for them by using a credit card. The products that the customer wants to buy goes to a virtual shopping cart, which stores all the products the customer picked until they are done shopping and are ready to pay for it. Under Armour is considered an e-Commerce website because it displays the goods that they are trying to sell, and provide customers with ordering, billing, and customer service information.

2. What are the reasons for using the Internet as a basic infrastructure for e-Business?

There are many reasons for using the Internet as a basic infrastructure for e-Business. One reason is that it allows businesses to attract new customers and retain old customers. It also allows businesses to have fewer geographical constraints, and allows the businesses to grow in a vast range of business applications. Using the Internet has the potential to reach the widest possible number of trading partners, and improve productivity.
