According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, diversity is the condition of having or being of different elements. Many times the word diversity is used in terms of people and cultures. This is the case because no two people are alike, and this holds true for cultures as well. Diversity of an individual encompasses three different areas: invariability, variability, and influence. While invariable characteristics of a person tend to remain the same over one’s lifetime, variable characteristics and environmental influences vary throughout a lifetime. Diversity adds color and interest to the world as different people and cultures share ideas, traditions, and values. Unfortunately, at times diversity is not accepted. This is seen through prejudice and discrimination. On the bright side, many people today have a positive outlook on diversity such as myself and the University of Toledo.

I knew I wanted a place where I could expand my horizons, meet new people, and leave with a better understanding of the world and its cultures. Out of my top three college choices, the University of Toledo was the most diverse. The university is large enough to attract students from all over the nation and other countries, while maintaining the culture of Toledo itself. I am very interested in studying abroad, and the University of Toledo has wonderful programs for this. Most recently, the campus had International Week which was very fun and interesting.
