If it is someone she is acquainted with such as friends, family and coworkers, she does not move backwards. She will stand close to them somewhere between 0 and 18 inches. N. Malcom likes hugs from her family members and it makes her feel loved. However, if the person is a stranger she will keep her distance and take a step back. The distance will grow and be anywhere from 18 inches to 3 feet. N. Malcom was comfortable with the distance between us during out interview which was approximately 20 inches apart.
Assessment of Social Organization Factors
N. Malcom considers herself in to be in good health. She is a single mom raising three children. Her mother is currently living in Jamaica; unfortunately, her father has passed away. Her definition of social activities is spending time with non-family members. In her spare time she likes to run her kids to various activities and listen to them play the piano. Her hobbies include reading books and listening to music.
She is a religious person and believes in God. N. Malcom worships him through praise and prayer. The role she plays in the family unit is mother and girlfriend. Her function in the family is cook, cleaner, student, and part-time worker. The biggest influence in her life is her mother. Although, her mother and siblings live in Cuba and Jamaica, N. Malcom feels she has a good relationship with them. She talks to them weekly on the phone or
