Dynamic Duo Inc. is somewhat of a new manufacturing plant with young and inexperienced managers. The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) implemented in 1970 require employers to maintain accurate records, in addition to adequately storing these documents for a disclosed amount of time (Foulke, & Beck, 1993). The advice one would give the owners concerning the company’s obligation under the OSHA standard in documenting accidents is having one primary person finalize the yearly paperwork. Once the key person has assumed the job assignment within the organization, they must complete forms 300 and 300A yearly. There are three primary forms a business is required to complete by OSHA standards. The retention period for these forms is five years. The OSHA Form 300 is a Log of Work Related Injuries and Illnesses. The log is used to classify work related injuries or illnesses plus notes the severity of each reported case (Ashby, 2001). Moreover, the form is completed yearly regardless if there is a recordable or non-recordable event. There has to be a paper trail recording occurred injuries. A recordable incident is noted when a person is injured on the job and cannot perform their regular assigned duties. Therefore, they require time off from work or job transfers/restrictions. A non-recordable incident is opposite of a recordable event. These events do not cause a loss in time away from work or have job assignments/restrictions (Occupational Injury and Illness Data, 2004). Management staff is to make them understand the importance of when to fill the forms rendered by OSHA, displaying the proper forms for all employees to see, and the number of years the forms must be retained within the company filing system before discarding. Likewise, the company should be able to produce OSHA documentation anytime someone desires to see the paperwork, including employees or in this case the unexpected compliance
