U.S has been for a long time been one of the countries with the most immigrants in the world and every day the number of immigrants coming into the U.S only increases. However, the people coming to the U.S are not only adults because the U.S receives immigrants of all ages and racial backgrounds; also, most of these immigrants are people who enter the country without legal documents and that means they have fewer rights or no rights or benefits in the country. That means they have to suffer from unemployment, poverty, lack of housing, etc. However, that has changed a lot for students who now can pursue a better life under the DREAM Act, which enables them to study …show more content…
In the blog “DREAM Act Pros and Cons,” the author state that, “This act [the DREAM Act] will add millions of individuals who will utilize government resources like health care, education and social security while paying low taxes or no taxes at all. The government deficits that are beyond control can further lead to bankruptcy.” In other words, people who are against the DREAM Act think that it will affect the country because new legalized students will use up social services without much or no contribution to the economy. In addition, Dr. Steven A Camarota in the article “Estimating the Impact of the Dream Act,” states that, “on average, each illegal immigrant who attends a public institution will receive a tuition subsidy from taxpayers of nearly $6,000 for each year he or she attends, for total cost of $6.2 billion a year, not including other forms of financial assistance they may also receive.” The fear some opponents have is that students will use social services without contribution; Specifically, they think that the money expend will be taken from taxpayers and it will affect the economy of the country because it will occupy funding of other programs like health insurance to pay for the student’s tuition. However, although it might be true that the government will have to pay some money to help those Dreamers, in the near future the economic benefits will be much bigger than the expenses done by the government. In other words, the investment the government is going to do will be recovered soon. Moreover, as the information above shows, as soon as 2020, the government will start seeing good changes in the economy and by 2030, the benefits of the DREAM Act will be evident in the whole country. Consequently, it is evident that the DREAM Act is far more beneficial
