The authors discuss the case of Heaven, a nine-year-old girl, who witnessed the murder of her grandmother, Mrs. Irizarry, by Mrs. Irizarry’s partner, Henry Malsonado. The night of the incident Heaven was sleeping in the same bed with Mrs. Irizarry when Henry Malsando came into the room with a steak knife. From there Malsando lunged at Heaven and cut her torso and left leg 5 times. It was not until Mrs. Irizarry blocked the blows with her own body that saved Haven from danger. The article takes this case as one of a myriad of times that domestic violence went unnoticed and placed a child within the home at risk. Such situations not only harm the victim, but have a greater impact on the ones that were also involved and survived. This time it was Heaven, who was left without a guardian and terrifying memories. This editorial calls out that this needs to be stopped and that we need to make a change in order to lower the rates and ultimately end this crime. The sources seem to be quite personal, except they do not look all around the world on this crisis. Going off of that, I feel that each of these pieces did a thorough job on explaining domestic violence and that change needs to happen. However, I also believe that each model needs to give a little more information on what ways these changes can be done. For instance, in the newspaper article, the main thing talked about were all the problems (such as drugs, parenting, etc) that went along with domestic violence, but not about how we can take that step. I think the other two sources did the same by bringing this dark issue to the light, but not giving a way out of
