Domestic Violence Shelters

Domestic violence can occurs anywhere and to anyone regardless if you are men, women, and children. Domestic violence does not have to be just physically but it can be emotionally and mentally. Domestic violence is when one person is in a relationship purposely hurts another person. It can also be consider intimate partner violence because a husband, ex-husband, boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend often the causes it (Office on Women’s Health, 2015). With domestic violence it is often occurs toward women and children. In United States, more than 5 million women are abused by an intimate partner each year (Office on Women’s Health, 2015). Not everyone can be stay at the shelter due to the lack of beds and space. Some shelters can be overcrowded, which can allow you to have little or even no privacy at all (Abuse of Power, n.d). Also being in a shelter, there may be limit of freedom, where there will be strict rules that must be follow or else the woman may be as to leave (Baker, et.al, 2010). Due to lack of freedom they once had and now to have follow rules, it can led them to go back to their domestic violence relationship. Although being in a shelter may help the women to find permenting house, however, not all women all guarantee for that. Under the certain federal law and U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), if the victim had bad credit history, criminal activity, debts to housing authorities, and income requirements in making housing allocation (Baker, et.al, 2010).
