Domestic violence destroys the key factor of the relationship: trust. Domestic violence can create a violent individual that just wants to do the same as what was done to them in their past relationships. “Domestic violence is socially unacceptable, and that just as there are negative consequences for victims as a result of experiencing violence and abuse, so too should there be negative consequences for perpetrators.” (Devaney 3) Domestic violence carries with it a punishment to every person that is involved. Devaney states that it is necessary for the perpetrator to suffer because they had the audacity to commit the crime. It results in upset people that are no longer happy with neither the perpetrator nor anybody involved with him or her. It should not be tolerated and should never happen to anybody. “Women abused by partners in their reproductive years, especially those pregnant and with infants, are vulnerable to adverse physical and mental health consequences” (Taft 2) Domestic violence can and will create turmoil in a relationship that otherwise would have been fine had the action not taken place. As Taft stated the perpetrator should have to endure and suffer the consequences of his or her actions just as Devaney stated in his work.
