Traditionally, the Dogrib fished and hunted, subsisting on caribou, which were trapped or speared. Moose, rabbits, fish, and water birds were also important foods. Dogrib hunters used bows and arrows, spears, snares, deadfalls and harpoons. Fishermen use nets and basket traps. They hunted Mountain goats and sheep, deer, moose, bear, elk and fish. They used natural resources such as red cedar trees, the forests, mountains, and rivers. Sledgehammers for splitting wood were made out of stone. In war, Dogrib men used their bows or fought with war clubs. Today, Dogrib tribes have their own government, laws, police, and services, just like a small country.
