New York City is one of the most exciting places to be born and raised. Having traveled to a few different states and countries, people always show interest when I tell them I’m from New York City. Being a NYC native gives me some bragging rights and I can truly say I am proud to be a New Yorker. One thing that excites me the most about living in NYC is the vast amount of diversity. Walking out in the streets, the sight and smell of diversity excites me.
Growing up within a diverse community has taught me to appreciate the many different ethnicities. A sense of excitement takes over my body knowing that there are others different from me. A tremble would overcome my system as soon as I would smell rice and beans, oxtails, or even fried plantain with steamed cabbage. I loved my Dominican cuisine, but stepping out of my house, I was not limited to the other cuisines near me. I would go to Wall Street just to let my curious taste explore the many different scents around me. The Halal truck across the street would bring a glimmer to my eyes, Rushing carelessly down the busy streets, I would order just to realize as soon as I got my meal, it was foundered at the bottom of my stomach. I’d plead for more knowing it was one my favorite meals.
I see people with looks that are bizarre to me, from the fashion they wear to the way they walk. New York City’s diversity not only helps me view the different individuals that encompass me, but it exemplifies my skills in communication and change.
Surrounded by different individuals helps me understand how a wide variety of individuals work, giving me experience on how to approach and work with distinct people. It’s a lesson and skill that is learnt just from being in New York City which intrigues
