Diversity Awareness Survey Paper

The assessment that I chose was called “ Test Your Cultural Sensitivity”. The survey came from The University of Arkansas for Medical Science. ("Template Page - Dept. of Template University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Diversity Committee"). The reason this particular survey was chosen is because I found it found the questions simple and straightforward. For example one of the questions was “When a friend does something you very much disapprove of, do you ("Template Page - Dept. of Template University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Diversity Committee").” That question is simple and straightforward. I enjoyed the multiple choices so you can see different answers and I also enjoyed how the answers were scored. Lastly I enjoyed the explanation it gave to how …show more content…
These aspects included race, sexuality, and unconcuious workplace bias just to name a few. This survey gives you some ideas about the different types of diversity awareness issues that may come up in our daily lives and makes you think about how you would deal with them. The only think I would change about this survey would be to give more of an explination on how to increase the diversity awareness issues that you might be having. I would also suggest that they break down the questions into catergories like race, and religion. The three questions I would ask are What is the largest minority subgroup? I would ask this because it makes you think about maybe thinking about who you should try to cater to in a business sense. Next I would ask How do racial biased affect others? This would be to help people think about the unconscious bias they have about people who are a different race than them. My finally question would be does ones gender give them a better advantage in life in 2015? I would ask this to get the mind thinking about gender inequality that still goes on

The goal is to increase the diversity of new hires. The Trouble with Diversity: Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Identity The study of diversity is widely exploited in political circuits in United States of America. Engaged from the presidential and ministerial speeches, it fits into their arguments without assessing the distortions that such a sequence suppose. Diversity is not a paradigm of equality. On this point, Walter Benn Michaels’s in his essay “The Trouble with Diversity: How We Learned to Love Identity and Ignore Inequality” allows to grasp some dimensions because "when it replaced the struggle for equality, the commitment diversity has weakened the political levees that contained the liberal thrust "(Michaels 2). In fact, despite the speech to deliberate accents claiming to provide visibility…

Diversity Interview I completed this interview with an old friend, Darian, she is African American and her prefered sexual orientation is female. I have never really given much thought on how different we are, and still believe we are more alike than different. But we do have some rather large things that distinguish the two of us from each other. The major ‘skin deep’ things being she has a girlfriend and is African American.…

The United States is a country rooted in change. Whether caught up in an international war or embroiled in internal strife, America is in a constant state of flux, rarely settling into peaceful periods and frequently falling into trouble. Economic depressions, natural disasters, civil war, international incidents, and political scandals are only a few of the many trials that the United States have faced as a nation. While all of these obstacles loom large in our heritage, one of the greatest points of contention throughout America’s history has been that of racial diversity, its associated conflicts, and reactions sparked by them.…

I know there is not much diversity in my life, but seeing how little there is on paper was truly eye opening. I have lived in Iowa my entire life and in general, Iowa is not an incredibly diverse state, especially in rural areas. Both of my parents are white and both of my brothers are white. My doctor, dentist, and dental hygienist are white. I grew up in a small town in North Iowa and there were around four people of color in my class of 90.…

The country as we know it may be dividing, a civil war based on race is closer than we think. The numerous protest rallies, routine traffic stops and riots are the end result of cops violently killing innocent blacks, creating a nationwide issue that hasn’t been solved. The police department and numerous others are in a sense targeting suspicious criminal based off skin color, this stereotypical false judgment is resulting in numerous violent altercations instead of peaceful interactions. The media has brainwashed the United States depicting blacks as the “Super Villain” and whites as the “Superhero”, the news is the media to blame for repetitive false judgment. I have grown up in a country and time where progress has been definitive. It has been in the time that my feet imprinted this earth and my lungs breathed this air that the Supreme Court has passed a bill for marriage equality and in the last eight years my nation has elected the first man of color to lead our democracy. It is that man who has helped to cut carbon emissions while making true strides for equality. Equality is not found in the darkness of segregated spaces or within the confines of comfort. Tolerance and cooperation are constructed at the crossroads of diversity and conversation.…

Looking back at my first assignment in this class, I can clearly see now how little I knew about what diversity really meant. I thought I “knew” the meaning of diversity because I moved from another country, but diversity it is more than speaking a different language. Diversity is the embrace of dissimilarities of people from different cultural backgrounds. This class gave me the tools to reflect on how my personal experiences taught me about diversity and how I have embraced it in different situations. Moving to the United States made me learned much more about diversity.…

The Important of Diversity Most implementers would like to find a magic pill to quickly understand a community. The “right” answer or simple lists of do’s and don’ts that is correlated with each community. A guide of behaviors can only take one so far, for what is appropriated to do in one community might be not in another.…

During this last semester, I was introduced to diversity in workplace from a different, more in-depth angle which I was familiar with earlier but never really had thought about certain topics; such as discrimination not only based on the color and race but also based on age and gender. This class Understanding and Managing Diversity helped me gained a better understanding of diversity topics and issues. Through this class, I learned that diversity as a whole just does not encompass among other sections such as race, ethnicity, religion but it also includes sections such as discrimination based on age, sex, gender identity, and transgenderism, gay and lesbian discrimination in the work place. As much as I have been identified to these current issues, I have also come to a better understanding that…
