Most implementers would like to find a magic pill to quickly understand a community. The “right” answer or simple lists of do’s and don’ts that is correlated with each community. But learning about a community’s culture and practices is a long and complex process, where perspective is everything. A guide of behaviors can only take one so far, for what is appropriated to do in one community might be not in another. Each community has their own culture and practices largely because of different historical and geographical circumstances. Cultural differences influence communication styles and languages the same way they influence other aspects of behavior. Communication is simply the sending and receiving messages. Two of the most common problem in relate to communication is misunderstanding and misinterpretation. The way one sees the world around them is filtered and influenced by one’s culture and practices. Which mean that a health educator’s message might be interpret differently in each community. Likewise how a health worker have to use different styles and languages when addressing different audiences. For example, workshop for parent has different content than workshop for student. Furthermore, among different schools district the highest percentage of vaccination exemption are seen among religious school (TDOH, 2015). One of my goals is to increase vaccination rate in a community is mandating families that seek vaccination exemption to attend educational workshop about vaccine. Here it is important for an implementer to take into consideration that each educational institution has their own culture, philosophy, and practices. As the implementer examines the differences in each school, one is looking at different ways of answering the same question. The implementer needs to learn and respect the norm of a school, not necessarily liking them. The implementer may be frustrated or even offended by certain act, however, increases understanding of a school will lead to enhance awareness. Furthermore, as the implementer becomes more community literate, implementer will learn to have a greater respect, tolerance, and acceptance of a school’s practices. Once the implementer learn to accept a school’s culture and practices an implementer can simply reacting to that behavior and figure out how to work with
