Analyzing Art Work by Different Artists from Different Periods Art is very important to people especially when it represents spirituality. It adds a strong connection between the artist and the viewers on something they both agree on. Art in the early Renaissance was mostly about spirituality, but as time passes by, artists paid less attention to spirituality, and they started adding other themes to art. I intend to show that The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, represents the scene of The Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. Da Vinci has depicted the horror in the 12 disciples’ faces when Jesus announced that one of them would betray him.…
The medium used (oil) allowed the painter to make very realistic shades and colors. The figures and landscape in the painting also looked very fluid and real due to the use of the oil paint. The painting contains the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus and his second cousin St. John the Baptist. The painting foreshadows the death of Christ on the cross. This point is displayed in the action of the painting where St. John is handing Jesus a small cross and Mary is looking upon it knowing what is to…
The museum I visited was the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida. There were three main exhibitions open, but the one I spent the most time in was the Bill Rutherfoord: Allegory of No Region. The exhibition was a culmination of eleven large scale pieces of art by Bill Rutherfoord that were done over an eight-year period. The main series, Allegory of No Region, contains paintings that take the viewer through a series of colorful allegories full of symbolism, form, and narrative. Rutherfoord, an American artist from Virginia, references contemporary and historical issues spanning from the 18th century to present times by taking the African folk character Brer Rabbit on an epic adventure through time.…
Bernini's sculpture is a great example of Baroque style because the sculpture draws the audience in by the bright lights aiming at the angel and St. Teresa. Also, the way the sculpture was made can give a person the sense of it being real. At the same time, Ingres's painting is an oil painting that uses "firm contours and polished brushstrokes" to represent a three-dimensional figure on a flat surface. Ingres' painting is a great example of Neoclassical style because of the way Ingres uses the brush to create the painting and it took place in Roman…
The religious scenes became more realistic and proportioned. The anatomy of the people within the paintings and sculptures of Italian Renaissance work appear scientifically correct and the scenes of the paintings have depth. Italian Renaissance artists used linear or one-point perspective to render proportioned work. An example is Holy Trinity and Tribute Money by Masaccio. In Masaccio’s work, there are vanishing points, orthogonals, a horizon lines, and foreshortening and atmosphere perspective used to give the viewer a realistic idea of the…
Analysis with the Principles of Art and Design Intertwining with the previous chapter and analysis, Epic of American Civilization: Anglo-America (panel 15) by Jose Clemente Orozco, the visual elements (line, shape, mass, light, value, color, texture, space, and possibly time and motion) must be organized in such a way as to satisfy the artists expressive intent. And this intent is where this current chapter comes into play (chapter 5). For the artist these new elements offer guidelines for making the most effective choices. These new principles of design most often identified are unity and variety, balance, emphasis and subordination, proportion and scale, and rhythm. The purpose of this analysis is to identify these values and give adequate…
Over the period of time the art movement has changed drastically. Usually when the art changes it relate to the era that it was in. During the 19th and 20th century the “style of art history” increased in the passing decades’ art historians tried to avoid stylistic classification when it could be avoided. When it comes to art any piece is capable of being analyzed and compared in terms of style. Each art piece has its own identities and uniqueness the only one that has an incomplete identity is the art piece that is unfinished, and even than the creator themselves must decide whether their piece is done.…
The two artists present the paintings in a classical manner that enables the audiences to relate to them by evoking their religious feelings. The paintings are symbolic of the Biblical transformations that took place at the…
He will be loyal, obedient, pure, and other several of things to make the world a better place. The three elements that exist within the artwork I selected which are form, value, and colour. I choose these three because if you look at the painting Madonna and Child Blue you will see the form of a sphere which could…
The Renaissance was an age of learning and revival of classic Roman and Greek art and culture. Paintings of the Renaissance often focused on religion but also focused on creating realistic humans. In 1518 the Renaissance painter Titian completed his masterpiece “The Assumption of the Virgin” for the altar Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari Basilica in Venice. The piece is a depiction of the Virgin Mary rising from Earth into heaven through angels taking her away from the Apostles and towards God. The painting promotes the idea that the Apostles, the Virgin Mary, and God are powerful, religious, and it promotes the Catholic Church.…
Christ is painted in the foreground surround by apostles and citizens painted in the technique called fresco. Another comparison of the two pieces are the way the viewer sees the figures. Giotto places his main subjects in the foreground, which brings attention forward compared to the Arrival in Bethlehem, where all the figures are scaled down so the landscape is the main focus. Another example of different exemplification of Christ Entering Jerusalem is Duccio’s tempera on panel. Duccio painted Christ and the apostles to the left and scaled the citizens up and around the bend of the road to the right of the painting.…
The Altarpiece of St. Clare: A Visual Biography The Altarpiece of St. Clare was created by an anonymous artist around 1280. The media used in this piece are tempera paint and wood. This was a common choice among artist during the middle ages.…
The painting shows that only Judas shares his secret knowledge. Leonardo’s simple arrangement of individuals shows different gestures and mimicry. He maintained the height of expression and attained the right model for the painting. This painting influenced other artists such as Rubens and Rembrandt since they caught the psychological state of Leonardo’s state of the…
This will be a description of “The Lamentation” by Giotto di Bondone (1305). One thing that stands out in this painting is the use of line. The artist’s use and qualities of the lines brings out the purpose and meaning of the painting, as well as what is actual and implied. The fresco painting depicts the body of Christ, Christ’s supporters, and the Angels in heaven after he had been crucified.…
Emerging from the despair of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance was a welcomed period of change. Europeans grew into a cultured society as wealthy metropolises developed. Prosperous merchants moved into larger cities and ambitious artists followed their patrons. Within renaissance art, there were many different sub-movements; from Northern European art to the “New Flemish Style”, and lastly the Italian renaissance. All of these artists contributed to the advancement of European art in various ways by introducing methods of perspective, symbolism, and the use of oils in painting.…
