Thank you for sharing your wonderful earthwork to the class Ms. Thi. The stones that you choose are very distinct, I like how they differ in shapes and yet they connect to each other. The flat stone in the middle is just the right size and shape to hold the two small stones on top. I also admire the green leaves and the light grayish blue rocks, and the small touch of yellow flower on the right side of the photograph, the combination of the color adds drama and it gives balance to the whole picture. I liked the small little yellow flowers that you cannot see at a first glance, but when you look deeper, there you would find them like fireflies in the trees. The horizon line for me is the table on which the rocks rest, the rocks are above the eye level of the viewer.

Ms. Thi’ s earthwork expressed simplicity and strength. It seems like the artist in her would like to give the viewer the feelings of serenity and boldness at the same time. The textures of the trees in her artwork expressed the calmness and I felt the coolness of air that seems to blow the trees.
5. Realism and Abstraction - Denote the objects in the work that are realistic. Discuss the abstract quality you see in the landscape.
I would say the leaves really gives more drama in Ms. This’s earthwork. And again, the texture used from the trees to the rocks give realism and character to the picture. The abstract part in the picture would be the biggest rock at the bottom. I see some lines and holes that represents a battle scar; it seems so mysterious that it looks broken in the outside but remains strong and powerful as it holds all the rocks …show more content…
Richa Bhatija caught my attention. I enjoyed looking at all the materials involved in her photo. The small area on the right side of the image where the plant is positioned balanced the large and seems an empty space of the horizon. The reflection of the sun to the rocks depicts a strong sense of movement. The vertical lines from the wood suggests stability and tallness and may give the impression of unbending principles of the artist. The proportion used from the position of the rocks, the horizon, the table and the plant provides meaning and balance to the artwork. The rhythm for me works in the interrelatedness of the rocks, the tiles on the table and the horizon. All together they gives drama and emphasis on the image which makes the viewer look and analyze what is beyond the picture. The center of interest is definitely the rocks, it is so amusing to look at how the artist stack up all in different shapes, and I am most moved at how the sun’s reflection seemed to kissed all the
