House of Vines The main theme of my house, is the idea that nature is not controlled by anything but itself. No man or object can completely control where nature goes, or what it does. The first quote that relates to my house is in Nature, when Emerson says that, "... nature describes it's own design". In the quote, Emerson is explaining how nature lives freely and spreads freely, controlled by nothing. My house represents this concept because nothing is controlling it, it is building itself. It is built completely out of vines that are wrapping around each other forming themselves into a house, which explains how nature designs itself, and isn't controlled by anything. This is shown in my picture by incorporating each part of the vine house, including the vines themselves and more importantly the roots that grow where people can't see them. This is important because the roots are the most important part of the house, but they are under ground and out of sight. Another quote that helps convey the symbolism in my house is when Emerson says that, "Nature never wears a mean appearance". By this he means that no matter how negative can become, it will always have some positive outcome. Nature is never completely negative. This is shown in my picture by the yellow flower next to the house that is connected to it by the roots. The yellow flower represents the positivity and happiness that nature as a whole can bring to the world. By it being connected to the house by the roots, it symbolizes how the house creates positivity. The last quote that is represented in my house is when Emerson states that, " In the woods, we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me". This is explaining how nature brings a feeling of happiness and serenity to anyone in its presence. This is represented in my picture by the bright and vibrant sun and the clear blue sky above.
