Romare Bearden: Art Analysis

Choosing three art pieces for the project was an interesting process. I logged onto the google art project and just started browsing. When I came across one that I was drawn to I saved it. And after a while I looked through the images and picked out three. The first one that stood out to me was Romare Bearden’s “Of The Blues: Carolina Shout”. Bearden made this collage piece in 1974. It stands 37.5 inches tall and 51 inches wide along with 1.5 inches in depth. I was drawn into this image but the vibrant use of color. The way the colors kind of flow and contrast all at the same time. You can see the shapes of hands next to faces showing people gathered together in a group. They look as if that are dancing. The texture looks a little random which makes since with it being a collage piece. You can see the crisp lines of there the image was cut out and then pasted on the canvas. On the far left of the image you can see scratch marks, maybe it’s there …show more content…
You see one bird possibly feed the other. It just look very peaceful to me. The pigeon's feathers look soft and light. I first noticed the layer of colors used in this image. You have blues next to reds and in the middle of the two you can see the blended shading of the colors. In the bottom tree you can see the colors blend from brown to blue. The tree also has some ridged edges making the image look more realistic. On the top tree you can see it’s a little lighter. the branch goes from dark brown to orange to yellow. Also there are leafs on the branch that are hanging downward showing movement making your eyes move downward. The balance of the image is interesting to me. It’s almost a mirrored image with the way the birds are placed. If you spin the image upside down you can see practically the same image. I fine the detail in this image to be what really stands out to me. The colors and texture of the birds are what really makes the painting look so

The artwork that I chose to describe for the stylistic characteristic of softened arhitectual is called Salon De La Princesse. Softened Arhtaectual falls under the stylistic period of Recoco. Germain Boffrand and others who helped with painting and decorating in the year 1737-1740 designed salon De La Princesse. This artwork can be found on page 584 of the textbook. The houses built for Recoco gathering were meant for the rich and powerful, so the interior was delightfully decorated, but plain on the exterior.…

When I went to the McNay Art Museum I chose Song of Margaret for Margaret by Carl Rice Embrey. The painting was done with acrylic polymer emulsion on panel in 1973. This representational painting has a lot of eye catching and visually pleasing points. The feel of looking out onto a field from inside a room is a life like view. One thing I noticed is that shape was used.…

The piece of artwork I choose to write about is “Dancers in a Forest Glen.” The artist that composed the artwork is Arthur B. Davies. Arthur B. Davies was an American artist born on September 26, 1863. When he first started painting he only really painted atmospheric landscapes in the Romantic manner then after 1900 his most famous pieces of artwork were created. His famous work is almost entirely a personal world of imaginary creatures, allegorical nudes, and dream-like landscapes.…

The United States of America has always been perceived as a country full of very passionate people to put it simply. Though it is left to the individual to interpret what they believe these people are passionate about, there’s a plethora of assessments that could fit the American spirit of today. Over time there have been artists who have used a variety of mediums to express their own views of the American spirit. One of those artists is S.E Hinton. In 2018 it seems that most Americans are realizing that the way things are is wrong, but they’re unable to understand how to improve anything and are generally frustrated with people of higher power for moving on without any concerns.…

The artist that made the “Beguiling Lore” painting used different colors to make the piece stand out except for the black that is shown. The colors are also bright with the colors over top of each other and it would be brighter if you added white or pink to the mix. The texture looks as if you would really be touching a string with a ball on kind of like the one’s on a blind in a house. The background of the painting looks chaotic and the crow is just looking at the piece of work that he might seem to understand even though he’s a crow. The shape of the painting looks two-dimensional as the lines on it looks real and it makes you think twice if it's an illusion.…

In my home, there is a record of my brothers and I, from pictures taken on birthdays and vacations or days when we looked ridiculous. They range from out birth to our current adult life, some breaks in between the photos, whether because the film was being processed or we did not have a usable camera at the time. Some of the pictures have been given away to others, class and family pictures to show how much we have grown or for the grandparents to show off to their friends. The exhibit “Retrospective” by Judy and Kevin Flicker reminds me of these photos. Pieces of their lives are strewn about the gallery, paintings and pottery lining the walls and displayed on pedestals.…

One of the most important things to consider when analyzing a painting by an unknown artist is the combination of visual characteristics and how that plays into the artist’s sociopolitical message that is imbedded within the work. Initially, the viewer notices the texture of the deep attention to color and texture specifically of the fruit and clothing of the women displayed. The ruffles in the outfits worn by the two subjects of the painting are very realistic, which shows mastery of this type of artistic aspect. The detailed basket patterns and fruit are also notable when considering the characteristics of the artist. Content in this painting is visually simple, but has contextual importance when analyzing further.…

The materials themselves serve as a tangible archetype of the subject matters in the paintings, depicting the surfaces aligned with the objects they lie upon. The color palette, seemingly opalescent at first, is rather muted and accented by the striking hues. It works well not only with the subjects themselves, but also the atmosphere of the gallery- tranquil yet energetic and…

While returning to the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston, I stumbled on a painting that was in our book Gardner’s Art through the Ages by Fred S. Kleiner on page 705. The composition intrigued me a hundred times more in real life then it did in my book. I wanted to know the story, who are the girls, where are they and why is there no certainty in the painting? Are the girls in an insane asylum, a museum, a house? The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, captivated me, it is like no other piece of art that I have even written about, I wanted to challenge my artistic ability and try something different.…

It gives off the effect that this is a still life work that most likely had a model for it. Intimate works of art like these give the impression that you have a one on one connection with the subject of the painting along with the artist’s visions and intentions with the piece. Art such as this one also are seen different by others and can give off different impressions, which fascinates me. I’ve always had an eye for art in all forms and experiencing them physically gives off different views and emotions rather than looking at it on a computer screen. You get to fully embrace the artistic appeal that each and every artist display in their work of art first hand, which adds to the experience.…

The multiple bright colors makes the sculpture look very bright and warm. The red and yellow colors really seem to stand out, and the skin tone face really contrasts with the green leaf clothes, based off of this I believe that the main focal point is the head. Each of the plants and flowers that make up the sculpture are very realistic and life like. The negative space around the flowers and plants that make up springs face make them look even more realistic. Both sides of the face are fairly symmetrical.…

Looking at today’s society many topics are deemed relevant, but are constantly changing. Today on December 1st, 2016 the biggest discussion people may be talking about is world hunger, environment, disease, or violence.
