Furthermore, the character development was stupendous as well. The hammock sleeper, horse riding Cogburn and arrogant, lone wolf LaBoeuf both learn to admire the determined attitude of Mattie. Additionally, it is quite difficult to not fall in love with the main cast at the end of…
I believe that the “psychiatric” approach to the play will hurt us more than help with our understanding of tragedy. If we look at all the other protagonists in other plays, we could all technically say that they all have a mental illness and stop looking for any other possible deeper meanings. This approach can help us understand why Willy talks to imaginary people, however this is a lazy approach to understanding about the story and other problems and characters in the story like Biff. Although I don’t think that a diagnosis will solve all the problems in the story, I think it will at least alleviate the issues.…
Right before his death his true god like figure emerges and he truly becomes a tragic hero. He has faced faulty accusations throughout the play time and time again which led him to realize hat he has to be the one to change what is going on in Salem and that his death will affect the outcome of what unfolded in Salem. He is no longer scared of dying in the end of the play and just wants to show others to not fold into the trap…
Miller’s Message The year is 1692. 39 women are arrested in a matter of days, all on the alleged charge of witchcraft, made by “witches” who confess and place the blame on others. Now fast forward to the 1930s, where those suspected of Communist activities are encouraged to save their skins by ratting out other “Communists”. In the Crucible, the famous play about the Salem Witch Trials, the playwright Arthur Miller uses the story of the Witch Trials to draw a parallel with McCarthy’s Communist trials. During the McCarthy Trials, Americans suspected of communist activities were put on trial for un American activities.…

I would have also liked to known just a little bit more detail of the writer's personal life just to give insight of what he was going through at home while all of this was unfolding. I also think the ending was slightly rushed and wrapped up semi…

I argue that Arthur Miller manages to create the dilemma that one cannot purse their happiness unless they also take responsibility for their role in society, a dilemma we perhaps more clearly see displayed in Joe’s history and current state after his deliberate decision to approve the cylinder heads. I conclude that society becomes the background of guilt, as we are unable to fully become content with ourselves without first becoming slaves to the projection of perfection that society nags us about. The forefront of happiness, though varying from individual to individual, can be heavily reliant on the relationships we build with one another and the world they envelope us in.…
What is Arthur Miller trying to communicate about the human condition in The Crucible? Humans are easily swayed by hysteria and when that occurs bad thing can arise. Humans tend to lose their minds and give in even to the most craziest ideas, news, accusations, etc. Address each of his themes with respect to the following topics.…
Depression and Anxiety Through the Eyes of the Accused Living with depression and anxiety often causes feelings of guilt, helplessness, and can completely consume the person. Arthur Miller channels these intense emotions in The Crucible through the people of Salem’s fates due to the false accusations of witchcraft. The guilt, helplessness, and consumption the accused experience are all symbols of the effects of depression and anxiety. Depression is often a battle against self-hatred, burdensome feelings of guilt, and feelings of deserving to be punished. Elizabeth Proctor clearly demonstrates self-hatred when she takes responsibility for John Proctor’s affair without a doubt in her mind, blaming herself.…
The characters in Fahrenheit 451 are mostly depressed. Many characters just go through life and don’t think about their overall happiness in life. The government keeps lie going at a fast pace so they don’t think so much. Our first interaction with Mildred, Montag’s wife, is when she overdoses. “The small crystal bottle of sleeping tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty capsules and which now lat uncapped and empty in the light of the tiny flare.…
