Denny's had perhaps one of the most visible instances of episodes of being prosecuted for racial bias and discrimination beginning in the early 1990's. In 1993 there were six Black secret service agents that accused a Denny's in Annapolis, Maryland of being racially biased. But, that was the tip of the 'Iceberg' of discrimination charges that began to surface against Denny's. They were accused of being discriminatory hiring and promotion practices. Denny's paid millions of dollars to Blacks as a part of a nationwide class action suit for discrimination. Along with agreeing to instituting a new and innovative anti-discrimination diversity program throughout Denny's organization. Denny's instituted a diversity sensitivity training program, along with instituting a continuous monitoring program to measure their progress in changing Denny's unethical, immoral and racially biased culture. …show more content…
Why, because Denny's actually turned their broken culture into the best practice. Their leadership adopted and lived by the new practices and enforced accountability of its workforce at all levels of the organization. They even developed a Code of Conduct encompassing every aspect of their business operation. You talk about putting their money where their mouth is: 'Denny's did it!' The bottom line is that Denny's accepted the fact they did not portray good and ethical leadership.     The reason why we believed this was a good approach to the situation is that with dwindling down their menu, they can start to focus on producing quality hamburgers, their core competency. As a group, we felt that McDonald’s was starting to produce products that didn’t fit well into their core competencies, which in turn was hurting their profits and the overall experience a customer obtains from going into a McDonalds.
