The United States is often referred to as the land of opportunity. People from all over the world have immigrated and continue to immigrate to this country seeking opportunity. An important part of American opportunity is the right to a free public education. Our public schools continue to become increasingly more culturally diverse. Diversity presents both challenges and opportunities for classroom teachers. In this paper, I examine what an appropriate educational philosophy should entail in a culturally diverse classroom.
