(2014) based on Loftus and Pickrell (1995) research where adults were asked to read about being lost in a mall and when they could have experienced that. They were later interviewed and even the adults who had never been lost in a mall recall having a similar experience as those who did get lost as children. Over time and trying to recall a similar situation to the initial stories they read made them more confident that they experienced it. Comparable to how I was in the recall test as based on all the similar words I expected the Critical lure words to be present based on expectation and as time passed I became more confident they were there. The Mall experiment is similar as when they were shown pictures of their ‘experience’ later on, and because being lost in a mall is quite a common occurrence they would simply expect that they were lost at one point and as time passes more false memories would appear shown as specific details they recall that didn’t actually
