Social media is the home of cyber bullying. That can potentially make kids depressed, and then bad things happen. Social media has been around for a long time, and it all started with a website called Six Degrees, and there is no doubt that cyber bullying was born there. Some may say its fast communication, some may say it is fast communication, but it isn’t worth it. Social media never affects society in good ways. To begin, social media has a negative effect on teens because it destroys personal interaction. Author Kristin Lewis wrote the article, Could You Become a Mean Meme? And said this, “Older generations used to hang out face to face. However, teenagers now use social media to communicate.” (p12, Coll 2) To clarify, social media takes away the need to talk to friends face to face, which can destroy friendships. To emphasize, the article also argues, “A typical teen sends more than 200 texts a week and spends 45 hours a week in front of a screen.” (P12, Coll 3) Since teens value electronics,

The author claims, “In the past, kids had the confidence to try/do something new, with less risk of being publicly humiliated.” Social media is bad because it prevents people from freely trying new things without getting publicly humiliated on social media. Social media also doesn’t leave any room for mistakes, and even though failing is part of growing, too much of it is bad. Kristen Lewis also claims, “Anything embarrassing can be forgotten by people, but the phone will not forget.” Exactly. Those embarrassing moments can always be resurrected at any time. So anyone can humiliate you at any time. To confirm, someone can always find it again, therefore embarrassing you once more.
