Thus causing the audience to feel confused with the speaker at the events that are unfolding within the poem. The enjambment within the line suggest how separate the two emotions are for the speaker as she battles with the contrast of emotions inside of her.…

As a powerful weapon, Reggae music can forcefully stop mental slavery with its symbolic musical strategies. Reggae musicians such as Bob Marley, Skip Marley, and Stephen Marley have effectively opened the minds of the African and Afro-Caribbean people from the immoral education of mental slavery. According to Ennis Edmonds, the reggae musicians are “telling Blacks the truth about their African roots and African identity” (pg. 29). For instance, in Skip Marley’s song “Lions”, he has powerful lyrics that are meant to be a self-empowerment anthem to promote inner strength and challenge social injustice. Skip Marley argues, “Some said "never" but the never done come.…

Written in 1933, The Mis-Education of the Negro provided a platform of discussion in terms of the debilitating state of African-American education during the 20th century. The thesis’ author, Carter G. Woodson, relays information about the education system of his time and how that same system has propelled blacks to seek lower-level positions on the social-economic totem pole. Though, this thesis was written many decades ago, the black community is still suffering; I personally believe that many of the things affecting some black communities today can be remedied if more businesses were black owned and reinvested in their community. Now, those of you who have read The Mis-Education of the Negro know that the author discusses several factors…

Introduction Reggae as a style of modern popular music expresses feelings and opinions about life, love and religion. It was originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s and rapidly arose as the country’s dominant music (Cooper, 2015). It is widely perceived as a forceful voice for the people under confrontation and struggle. As Reggae often bores the weight of politicized lyrics that addresses social and economic injustice, it helps to raise awareness about social and political issues.
