Definition: A concussion is a traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a hard hit or blow to the head can cause damage to the spinal cord or brain. The sudden hard force against the skull causes the brain to rapidly bounce back and forth this may create chemical changes as well as damaging brain cells.

Signs and Symptoms: The most common signs and symptoms of a concussed football player are:
Loss of consciousness
Drowsiness
Confusion
Headaches
Blurred vision
Nausea or vomiting
Loss of memory of events surrounding the events

Prevention: There is no way to completely terminate concussions from sports, however there are minor ways to stop them from occurring so often. By distributing the proper equipment to athletes and making sure it fits properly can help prohibit concussions. Also by teaching proper techniques to tackle and keeping your head out of the play can also help decrease the amount of head to head collisions, which in turn can slow down concussion rates.
