I noticed that this week’s articles focused on the comparisons of leadership styles as they relate to leaders engaging with subordinates through positive reinforcement and compensation, versus harsh critique and arm’s length management, while also continuing to narrow down the key components of what makes a good leader. Kerr and Schriesheim (1974), Yukl and Falbe (1990), Higgins, Judge, and Ferris (2003), and Judge, Piccolo, and Ilies (2004) discuss similar but different perspectives on the leader reward and punishment behavior reported on by Podsakoff, Bommer, Podsakoff, and MacKenzie (2006).
