After enjoying themselves in the refreshing water of the camp, Jonas strictly instructs and tries to get them to cover their bodies. Jonas is worried that an officer would be watching, but their mother believes that no one would be attracted to her thin body. Jonas continues his concerned thoughts by explaining how it would be possible for a guard to take interest in his mother and will be threatened into prostitution like Mrs. Arvydas. Although the concept was ridiculous, Lina and Jonas both were aware of how dangerously close Mother and a specific officer were, making the idea a possibility. To finally resolve their concerns, they begin asking about her relations with Kretzsky. If the situation has happened before with Andrius’s mother, then it happening to Jonas and Lina’s mother did not seem too far from being likely. …show more content…
Of course, the novel clearly depicts the inseparable love of Lina and Jonas’s mother and father. However, no one knows for sure if Lina’s mother may or may not be disloyal, especially from the children’s standpoint and minor evidence. The possibility seems extremely unlikely to the audience, but is always that one percent likelihood. Moreover, Mother’s progeny and the reader would be curious to see if Kretzsky would really does find their mother interesting or if they just share an innocent, friendly relationship.
