First, the Debutante ball is where Amory met Rosalind and fell head over heels in love with her. Amory went with Alec to his sister, Rosalind’s, Debutante ball. Rosalind is a beautiful girl but she is really snobbish. Amory accidentally went into Rosalind’s dressing room and they kiss after just a few minutes of meeting each other. Rosalind warns him that “she has kissed dozens of men and will probably kiss dozens more”, but this didn’t keep Amory from wanting to kiss her again.
Furthermore, meeting Rosalind at the Debutante was an important chapter for this novel even though it ended bad for Amory.
