The type of love that is to be expressed by Connie’s mother is different than what she expected as teens strive to be acknowledged and be praised by their parents.
The lack of control allows Connie to assert her demands. She will go as far as to lie into her mother’s face about the activities with males she has just met or stay home against her mother’s wishes.
At the same time, Connie’s mother may not have been good with her words as her role of a mother may have been hidden behind the terms she is using.
