The greatest example of a shared quality is its’ excellent use of tone which is a major selling point for both adaptations. Fargo’s tone is dark to say the least but its darkness is kept from becoming gaging by being broken up by comic relief which gives the story a very unique and captivating feeling. The dual tone also allows for the story to play off of itself a scene that the writers want to portray as dark is enhanced because it catches the viewer off guard due to the previous scene having a more comical tone; as opposed to the viewer becoming calloused to a more morbid moment because it is what they are expecting.
There are many things that can either make or break a story; it is the job of the writer to properly determine how he will make use of the tools at his disposal. In the case of Fargo we are given an exciting opportunity to learn how writers use these tools to enrich the viewer's experience whether it be story structure, character development, tone, etcetera. while the writers make different use of their allotted tools for for Fargo’s tv and movie form there are still many similarities which bind them together only finding favor in the unique eyes of the
