A person’s emotional intelligence is reflected by their ability to grasp the emotional state of a person or crowd that they are communicating to. For example, if someone who you are having a conversation with, keeps on interrupting you, keeps correcting you while you are speaking, uses a raised tone of voice as your talk progresses and ignores most of what you say to latch on to one thing and keeps hammering on that one point, then it can be said that, that person is not very emotionally intelligent and you might now want to talk to this person again. 188). An emotionally intelligent person would be proficient in the above mentioned facets and would be able to utilize that expertise to enhance his communication skills. For example, suppose there’s a conflict between Tom and Harry, both of whom have been assigned to work together on a project by their boss. One day, the conflict with Randy becomes too much for you to bear and Tom decides to go discuss the issue his boss. However, when Tom enters his boss’s office, he sees that his boss is sitting with his hand on his forehead and looks distressed. If Tom was an emotionally intelligent person, he would figure out that his boss is frustrated by some other issue and so he will avoid bringing up his grievances as that might aggravate his boss further. But if Tom were a person who is not emotionally intelligent, he would bring up his grievance because he either cannot decipher from his boss’s body language that he is upset or he does not understand that telling his boss about his issues with Harry right now, might result in his boss feeling more stressed, which either leaves a bad impression on him or he decides to rule to against Tom because Tom was not considerate of his metal states at the moment. This hypothetical scenario requires the person to use self – regulation and self – awareness skills. Tom has
