The leap from high school to college is a large one. Choosing the best college for me involves endless hours of research, comparing, and contrasting. Many factors play into choosing the best choice for me. First, I made sure I had an idea of which career I’d like to pursue. For me, I’d like to pursue a career in education. I’d like to become a high school US/VA History teacher. Knowing that, I have done my fair share of researching, comparing, and contrasting. I began with four colleges: James Madison University, Virginia Tech, Christopher Newport University, and Virginia Commonwealth University. After researching, I narrowed it down to two: James Madison University (JMU) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). I have applied to both universities, and if I’m fortunate enough to be accepted to both I’ll need to make a decision regarding which college is best for me. James Madison University and Virginia Commonwealth University are both somewhat selective schools. In spite of the fact that they are both similar in their selectivity, their entrance requirements differ. James Madison’s GPA requirements slightly vary, but the average high school GPA is a 3.8; however, Virginia Commonwealth’s GPA requirements are a 3.5. SAT scores play an imperative role in acceptance at both universities. JMU’s SAT score range requirements are notably higher, 1575-1875. VCU’s SAT score range requirements are 1490-1800.
