Code of Ethics and What It Means To Me
Introduction
Today, human services is a profession in which the upholding of integrity to clients, the public and society, colleagues, employers, to the profession and self is held in the highest of regards. Although the human services profession was developed in the late twentieth-century, there had yet been endowed a set of standards to uphold until thirty-six years later in 1996. This set of standards, now known as the Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals, was developed by the board of National Organization for Human Services, or NOHS. These guidelines, soon to be presented, are characterized and utilized for the well-being for all humans, laws, and behaviors. In short, the ethical standards for human service professional’s entails of seven categorized sections. All titled in regarding the persons of whom the standards will be applied to. Responsibility to Clients being the first section and in its entirety this specific section has nine standards to follow, the most of any other category. Responsibility to clients basically ensures that the human service professional is aware of his or her duty when regarding person in need. However in this category, confidentiality is one of great importance because it protects the client’s right to privacy unless the well-being of others or themselves is in danger. The limits of confidentiality is to be made clear to the client prior to the client-therapist relationship.…
