When I was younger, my peers influenced me to focus on the importance of mental health. Throughout elementary school, I was able to notice the difficulty I faced while learning subjects such as math and spelling. I was behind in my classes and constantly needed support to finish assignments that were simple for my peers caused by my dyslexia . After receiving demeaning responses previously from classmates, I struggled to ask my classmates questions,worrying that I would be burdensome and embarrassed myself. A classmate’s remark of,“ You should have learned to spell that word in kindergarten” was etched in my head constantly tormenting my self-esteem. Progressively, I began to talk less and less to classmates until it became a rarity due to the bitter taste …show more content…
I knew some people in the club and learned to feel more comfortable talking to them in time. After I was able to meet more members within the club and initiate conversations with them with more ease. When I became comfortable I was able to contribute my own personal responses and opinions. I realized I other people’s opinions of myself have a less crucial impact on me because I no longer find a majority of their opinions to be relevant. From this I was able to build more confidence in my actions because I was able to see more self-worth. Lastly, Gaining self confidence through the club has allowed me to become a leader and better helps me deal with anxiety I may face while interacting with others
