America’s effort in foreign policy of maintaining a strong network of allies while playing its enemies off against one another has served it well in the past and into the present in maintaining their position. However, now China, a nation that was generally docile when conversing the international stage, has begun to implement a new strategy to combat the American influence. While presiding over Asia, thus securing their backyard, while also heeding the words of Sun Tzu, “fighting where their enemy isn’t,”by capitalizing on extending their own influence into regions the Americans have neglected. Sun Tzu often warns the reader throughout his treatise, “do not besiege walled cities” - China is in the process of building their own impenetrable diplomatic wall of regional allies. Whether that be supporting the Pakistani’s, to refusing to chide the irresponsible North Koreans, China makes its intentions to secure its borders with friendly allies well known, and they are blatantly obvious on how they do it. They are using something they can disperse reliably, while the Americans can’t - money. Using the their immense wealth China can afford to buy the loyalties of the states that are on their doorsteps through lucrative trade deals and cash injections, even if that state has been a longtime US ally.
