In today’s world, it seems as if we are constantly being surrounded by violence in movies, TV shows, video games, etc. With that being said, its impact on society rarely goes noticed. Most people have grown up watching things with a lot of ferocity. Children nowadays can get their hands on anything. Although most parents do restrict their kids when it comes to something being too violent to watch, the children themselves can easily get hold of that content. The fact of the matter is that this violent content increases the aggression of children, however we are too far gone in society to shift the heavy media content from violence to other material. Dr. Eugene Beresin once stated that “while the causes of youth violence are multifactorial and include such variables as poverty, family psychopathology, child abuse, exposure to domestic and community violence, substance abuse and other psychiatric disorders, the research literature is quite compelling that children 's exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent behavior” (Beresin, n.d.). When it gets into their system children begin to think that it is acceptable and become unresponsive to how horrifying it actually is. Cartoons even contain violence. As shown in the video, Tom and Jerry, a popular kids cartoon, shows constant hostility in almost every single minute it is playing. Although it seems harmless, it can have a bigger influence on a child than one might know.
