Gerard Jones wrote “Violent Media is Good for Kids” explaining violent media do benefit and help kids. A child can imagine a fantasy self who was unafraid of his or her desire and world's disapproval, unhesitating, and effective in action. People who pull themselves out from emotional trap and immerse into violent stories. Fear, greed, power-hunger, rage are aspects people try not experience in their lives, but wants to experience. Rage motivate children to resist the greater threat and take more control. Pretending to have superhuman allow children to conquer feeling powerless. Children need violent entertainment in order to explore the inescapable feeling. Violent stories help children meet their emotional and developmental needs. However, parents have taught their kids that violence was wrong. Psychologists insist violent stories are harmful to kids. Teachers beg parents to keep their kids from "junk culture". Parents built a wall between their child and the crudest element of American pop culture. Children develop a dual identity to balance between inner self and public self as they work through the stages of socialization. The author use his own personal experience about how Hulk freed him and help develop a fantasy self-image carrying his stifled rage and desire for power during his childhood (Jones, 2011).
