Purpose : This activity was to identify concepts on cells and to learn more about the functions and reproduction of cells within living organisms.
Lab Summary: While doing this activity we experimented with bacterial growth and I was able to witness growth in its replication. Through the process of mitosis, I was able to view cellular reproduction.
Lab Answers
A. Bacterial growth observation. The population doubling time is estimated to be 20 minute.
B. Cellular reproduction : The three types of cell separation are : The binary fission, Mitosis, and Miosis. Binary fusion are prokaryotes cells and mitosis and miosis eukaryotes. All of the cells reproduce. Prokaryotic cells when they are ready to divide first copy the genetic material and become 2 chromosomes. It is like cloning. Mitosis is similar to binary fission in terms of results, chromosomes are replicated, copies are moved. The opposite ends of the parent cells separate giving rise to 2 daughter cells that are similar to the parent cell. Mitosis is the type of cell division that replicates gametes. It lowers the number of chromosomes by ½. When sperm fertilizes then it has full set of chromosomes. …show more content…
It was approximately 80% of time in developing cells is spent in interphase.
If 100 cells were randomly sampled estimate the percent of cells that would be involved in mitosis compared to interphase. ½ percent of the time of cells at all times are undergoing mitosis, this is because certain cells are required to reproduce more times than others.
