Lululemon’s Controversial Apology
Lululemon Athletica Inc. was in the business of manufacturing yoga inspired from athletic apparels and had international presence (Lululemon, n.d.). In the fall of 2013, Chip Wilson, the founder of Lululemon appeared in Bloomberg television to promote his company’s products. During his interview he blamed some of his customers for the piling problem in the yoga pants. He was of the opinion that some women’s body shapes were not fit for their company’s clothing line (Kim, 2015). He said, “ "Frankly some women's bodies just don't actually work for it" and "...it's really about the rubbing through the thighs, how much pressure is there over a period of time, how much they use it ” (Lululemon, 2013).
This remark created an outrage against Wilson in the media, which resulted in a 50 second apology video on YouTube by the company (Kim, 2013). In this apology video, Wilson apologized not to the customers he offended by his words, but to his own employees. He said. “I'm sad for the people at Lululemon who I care so much about that have really had to face the brunt of my actions," Wilson said. "I take responsibility for all that has occurred and the impact it has had on you. I'm sorry to have put you all through this” (Lululemon, 2013). Throughout the apology video he never mentioned his customers. According to ABC News (2013), Wilson’s apology was a kind of disaster for not addressing the offended customers directly. Later in the year this controversy became one of the reason leading to Wilson's resignation as chairman from the company (Kim, 2013).

For many customers, it was an insufficient apology that failed to address all of the women he offended. The company, once again, was in risk of losing current and future customers because of the added controversy. In Chapter 3, we addressed investor confidence and the importance that shareholders and other investors have assurance that their money is in the care of capable and trustworthy organizations (pg. 93). The behavior of Wilson is certainly not instilling any confidence with these investors as they watch him continually make inappropriate comments after the company just lost nearly a third of its market value. The organization handled this situation by forcing Wilson to step down as the head of its Board of Directors, and he was told by the company’s executives that it was his fiduciary duty to refrain from further public statements.…

My marketing objective for my 2016-2017 lululemon athletica advertising campaign is to get more brand awareness for the men’s clothing department. This section of the brand tends to struggle more than the women’s department because as many women know, most men are stuck in their ways and most likely will not want to be associated themselves and what they wear with a brand that carries a feminine name. Also, lack of awareness is making the men’s department at lululemon athletica struggle. In my marketing strategies, I want to pinpoint how comfortable and casual athletica’s men clothing line is.…

1: Should Nike be held responsible for working conditions in foreign factories that it does not own, but where subcontractors make products for Nike? Ans: Nike should be held responsible for its subcontractors, as it is operating in countries which lower its costs and increasing its profit. Nike should be accountable, as they are huge firm which holds considerable international authority and when making the contract it holds the final decision, as they can find other subcontractors, so Nike should be able to specify what kinds of working conditions it should have and not have in the factories and it is possible they might not have much influence in the foreign country but I am sure they can specify working conditions that are acceptable by…
