The layers of organizational culture are very evident at Buck Press Limited. According to Buck Press’ Chief Executive Officer Eric Buckman, “We want to create a collaborative, productive and energetic workplace for our workers”. With regards to Buck Press, the observable artifacts found at Buck Press office in the Ghana tie into their organizational culture. Some of these observable artifacts include a main cafeteria at in the office which serves breakfast and lunch to employees. This helps to keep employees nourished and energized as they are able to offer suggestions as to which meals they prefer to be served to make work more comfortable. Buck Press considers processes and procedures out-side these established procedures as modifications that must be brought under control. This formalization is pushed by efficiency; reduction in variance increases predictability, and increases in predictability allow for improvements in efficiency for the company. For example, on the production floor, one person stands at the printer to perform the single task of moving printed paper onto a tray. Because employees on the production regularly work independently with little interaction, it is often difficult for them to see how one's small, specialized task relates to overall organizational objectives. Additionally, the work of Buck Press tends to be impersonal since jobs are designed around the task rather than the individual. Personnel selection, assignment, and promotion are based on the possession of skills required for specific tasks. Other people, like switchable parts of a machine, can substitute people in a position.
Specialization is carried throughout Buck Press.
