Batman watches in agony as the Joker unties the President and puts the gun to his head. The Joker props Batman into a sitting position on the wall and goes over to the President who is still laughing. “And for the grand finale” the Joke says, waving his arms in the air. Batman yells “Don’t shoot him!” Clearly amused by Batman’s distress the Joker continues speaking “Okay I won’t shoot him since you asked so nicely but, it’s rude to interrupt, even if you are a bit batty. Get it? Batty? Why aren’t you laughing? Mr. President seems to think it’s funny. Look he’s dying over there. Get it? Dying? As I was saying, for the grand finale,” the Joker grabs the President’s head by his mouth and the back of his skull, and with a sudden, violent jerk he twists it and the laughing stops. “His laughing was getting annoying. You know what I mean?” He walks over to Batman and pulls his head to nod it up and down, “Yeah, you know what I mean.” Batman, physically and emotionally broken tries to get up again, but he can’t so he gives up. His blood still falling to the ground mixes with his angry tears. He looks over at the dead President and he thinks to himself How could this have happened? When did he become so strong? Why did I lose focus? He watches in horror as the Joker slices a smile in the President’s face. The Joker turns around and faces Batman “This is what happens when you try to be the hero. It’s just inevitable, you go after me, we fight, and then we do it all over again.” the Joker says, laughing. “Next time, Joker. I will get you, I will kill you.” The Joker chuckles and leans over Batman and says “Face it Bats you’d be lost without me.” The Joker limps away and opens the door showing the bodies outside of the Oval Office. He looks back one last time at Batman and laughs maniacally and says “You have a little blood on your face.” He leaves knowing that he won this time around. The Joker feels proud of himself but there is another feeling, an odd feeling, something he’s never felt before. He just shrugs it off and calls his henchmen to pick him
