Brief Summary Of Crispin's The Cross Of Lead

Crispin The Cross of Lead is a book about a thirteen year old boy known as the son of Asta, but then later known as Crispin after her death. Crispin lived in a small village called Stromford with his mother until she died and he was all alone. After his mother passed, he ran away for the safety of his own life from the village because he was wanted dead by the town steward. The town steward had wanted Crispin dead because he thought Crispin was responsible for stealing money and for the murder of the priest. After he ran away from the village he went to a another village called Lodgecot, where he met Bear. Crispin and Bear had become friends, then later traveled to a village called Great Wexly. In that village Bear had met John Ball, who led a rebellion group. Therefore the next day Bear goes to a secret meeting with John and his rebellion group, where Bear is followed by a man. Crispin notices a man following Bear so Crispin decides to follow Bear so he is able to warn him. Crispin had followed Bear all the way to the meeting where he decided to listen to what they were saying. Therefore Crispin spots, soldiers approaching, so he runs in to warn Bear and the rebels. The book takes place in Stromford, a little village in which Crispin lived in, but had to leave behind. In the book, Crispin and his mother Asta were serfs also there were lords which cared a lot about land. This type of government is called feudalism. Which consists of serfs which were at the bottom, soldiers/knights which were above serfs, lord's above the soldiers, and a king at the top. Since the Lord was always fighting for the King, he had the steward manage his land. Now that he has been declared a wolf’s head he can be killed by anyone which is why he runs away from
