I am for organ donation, by being an organ donor you can save many other lives. There are several facts about being an organ donor. 1) you can be of any age to be an organ donor. 2) major religions in our country support organ donations. 3) no cost to your family to be an organ donor. 4) regardless of medical history you can be a donor.
Everyday about 79 people receive an organ. On the other hand about 22 people die each day waiting for an organ because of the lack of organ donors. People from infants to grandparents are waiting for an organ transplant. Most people think if they are 50 or older they are too old to be an organ donor. There are over 99 million people in the united states over the age of 50. If most of these people would sign up to be an organ donor, just think how many more lives could be saved. As an example African Americans, Asians and Hispanics are 3 times more likely than white Americans to suffer from kidney disease. There are at least 34% of more than 100,000 people on the waiting list for a kidney that are African American. Organs are not matched to race. People of different races often match each other. If there were more donors from their race/ethnic background than the chances of getting an organ from their race/ethnic background is greater, because compatible blood types are critical for donor and recipients. A larger diversity of donors could increase transplantation for all people. So all you have to do is when you go to renew your license tell them that you would like to be an organ donor. When you get your license or ID it will have a little heart on it showing that you are an organ donor. So as I am an organ donor and proud to say that I am hopefully I will save a life one day or maybe several lives. So really think about it and be an organ donor, to save more lives each
