What is a teacher leader? To me a teacher leader is a person who possesses qualities to inspire others, leads, and strives for the improvement of education. According to Harrison and Killion (2007), a teacher leader assumes a wide range of roles to support schools and student success. Whether these roles are assigned formally or shared informally, they build the entire schools capacity to improve. That is why being a teacher leader is so vital to the success of education.
Teachers do not necessarily have to be a leader in everything to be considered a teacher leader. They could be a leader formally or informally. In their schools they could carry out certain roles that ultimately lead to the success of everyone at the school. A teacher could

In the field of education, teachers communicate with parents, students, peers, and administration. Communication involves listening and speaking. It also includes reading and writing. Teacher leaders who are highly skilled communicators are more likely to excel. Teacher leaders are able to transmit knowledge and skills all while communicating to the person/people that they care for them. Cortez-Ford (2006) states that without effective communication learning is impossible for students, teachers, administrators, and the school as a whole. Changes are always occurring in education with new leaders, come a new set of rules and guidelines to follow. With each new school year comes a new set of faces. Concordia Online (2016) states that a good leader knows that change is coming and makes adjustments until they are as effective as they can be. Change gives teachers the opportunity to perform their roles even better.
The role of teacher leaders has changed overtime as situation in education have changed. However, the qualities of teacher leaders has remained the same. The role of teacher leaders has evolved as education has changed. For example, over the years teachers went from teaching all grades in a one-room school house to teaching in the first integrated classroom. Teachers have taught in classrooms with very resources to information at everyone’s fingertips. Through all of these phases some, teachers rose to the challenge.
I have completed five full years of teaching. My first year I was a third and fourth grade Special Education Teacher. My second year I was a regular third grade teacher, then a regular fourth grade teacher. The last two years I spent being a regular third grade class. Regular third grade is where I intend to
