I would love to experience the excitement and rewarding experiences that comes along with this career. Occupational therapists treat wide array of conditions in children these may be congenital, neurodegenerative and orthopedic disorder or rehabilitation after major trauma. To provide therapy for these children occupational therapists often employ play therapy, specifically tailored for children to target areas of need. The role that the occupational therapist play in patient’s life is crucial, as previously stated their work has the ability to bring meaningful change to the lives of all affected. “working with children can be very rewarding. one of the philosophies of the profession is to be able to show the patient techniques on how to communicate as well as to listen.” (Lynn, 2013). An Occupational therapy has chooses to specialize in pediatrics with encounter a variety of diagnoses such as autism. A child with autism often has difficulty with social skills, communication with others, and behavioral skills. Treating autism can be a challenging task for any therapist due to the fact every child is unique, where treatment intervention will vary depending on the child’s needs. My role as a therapist is to be educators and facilitators to both the parents and the child. In conclusion, I look forward to complete the Cota program and finally embark in a successful career as an occupational therapist; it will be very fulfilling to work in the pediatric setting, to assist and educate the children and families to accomplish their
