They also help students strengthen the cognitive development. Therefore, their focus as an occupational therapist is to help students become more independent individuals. The therapist will meet with students that may have a hard time grasping objects. For example, a student will practice on picking up cotton balls with tweezers, eat using utensils, or attempt to use scissors, to improve their motor skills. Someone that is considering becoming a licensed occupational therapist must obtain a master’s degree. The “coursework in occupational therapy programs includes the physical, biological, and behavioral sciences as well as the application of occupational therapy theory and skills. Programs also require the completion of six months of supervised fieldwork” (Labor Statistics). This job can be a very rewarding and gives both the therapist and student the ability to both grow with their experience of working together. There are some cases that require more of the therapist time and effort before noticing little to any improvement. However, occupational therapist also work with students that have been told by a physician they will never overcome their obstacles, but with regular visits to the therapist and they prove their physician
