As occupational therapy practitioners, we ask our clients, “What matters to you?” not, “What’s the matter with you”. Occupational therapists are taught and reminded of important words that our career is built on. Occupational therapists help individuals across their lifespan participate in meaningful activities of daily life; we do this through best practice, education and being client-centered. Like the word “sensible” occupational therapy triggers curiosity among healthcare professionals. Therefore, as an occupational therapy assistant, I believe word choice is an important issue in our career and the framework for which we practice.
