Life of a Marine Biologist: Barbara Block
An Icon is somebody who has been an excellent inspiration to all. It is someone who represents as a symbol, whose significant additions are taken into consideration constantly. In Marine Biology, an icon is a person who has acted upon themselves to expand information and analysis to the field. Barbara Block is a forty-eight year old Marine Biologist, and has been a part of this field for more than twenty years. Barbara attended Duke University where she received her PhD, and continued her studies in Marine Biology (Charles & Elizabeth Prothro, 1). She moved to California after graduation to advance her knowledge at Monterey Bay. She has remarkably invested much of her time and dedication towards the focus on worldwide aquatic issues. She has contributed so much time and dedication towards the field of Marine Biology to not get any recognition. Block has blown the minds of scientists through her research with large fish. Her studies of the Bluefin Tuna fish and Great White Sharks have increased not only her education but other people’s as well. She has been in the field of Marine Biology for over twenty years and is going to continue to widen her data range. If it weren’t for Barbara Block, the hotspots where Bluefin Tuna fish use for mating would have never been fully protected. Also, the tracking devices for figuring out how much distance a Great White shark can travel throughout the year would have never been drastically studied as it does now. Barbara Block is commonly recognized as one of the prominent and most important Marine Biologists alive today because of the amount of research and organizations she has put
