Arts Management Personal Statement
Arts management as a degree choice at University was something that I feel naturally inclined to do; I have always been organisational with a keen eye for details. From arranging small outings within my group of friends to helping out with the running of a big event at school, I am constantly trying to find outlets for my enthusiasm.
The arts have always had a high importance in my life, especially within the last few years. In 2007 I was a chorus member in a school production of ‘Fame’, where I learnt several dance routines, songs and knowledge about the general production and running of a musical. I have also been to the West End on several occasions to see various shows – all of which I have considered to be breathtaking and inspirational.
From an artistic point of view, I have a great love and passion for photography. I have had some of my own work displayed within a gallery at school and am actively involved in an online photography sharing website. My photography A Level exposed me to what I consider to be some of the greatest photographers, such as Annie Leibovitz, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Anna Gaskell – all of whom have

The first is with the events team at The Royal Yacht – a large and well established hotel that deals with not only corporate functions, but weddings and specialized gatherings like gala dinners or charity fundraisers. The second is within the events team at Jersey Heritage, who mainly deal with weddings and functions placed on historic sites that are specific to Jersey. I am extremely grateful to the two companies for allowing me to take a sneak peek into their working lives. It will definitely teach me more about what the management side of the job entails and allow me to build up and extend upon a bank of knowledge that I can then transfer and use on this degree

It is with great pleasure that I submit an application for the Marketing Growth Analyst position offered by Ampush. I learned about Ampush from personal research and became interested in your company’s unique approach to marketing strategy and campaigns. When I first learned of Ampush, I was immediately taken by your mission to cater an individual advertising experience for each one of your company partners rather than trying to find a one-size-fits-all strategy for every single project. Ampush’s focus on instead developing strategies that target the individual needs of each project resonates strongly with my experiences in the arts at Williams. With each theatrical production I worked on, I was encouraged to analyze and understand the show…

Since a very young age, art has always been one of my major interests. I found joy in getting my hands messy with the paint and then transforming a white piece of paper into a something more than that with a rainbow of colors. In school, I always made sure to take all the possible art classes that were available and would fit my schedule. I also began to get more in involved in after school clubs such as the National Art Honor Society and the SmART Club where we did several art projects every week. On my last year of high school I decided to challenge myself and I took AP Studio Art: Drawing Portfolio.…

Through the combination of this documentary, “The Great White Way” and “Showtime, I was exposed to information that made me question my definition of a musical. I was also forced to explore how the musical developed from its origins into what we know as the modern musical of today. My first discovery was that the musical is a distinctly “Americanized” art form and as such it is became a key part of American cultural movements that would follow the Revolutionary war. After gaining our independence as a country we moved to reject a great deal of our European culture and were then forced to create a new distinct American culture with its own art forms and practices. In order to determine how this process occurred specifically within live performance…

I was raised on the border between three small towns just south of San Antonio. In my early childhood, I was convinced that my life would mirror that of my parents: graduation, marriage, and children. That sounded like a fine idea to me. Though as I grew bigger, so did my ambitions. Stuck in a world where the arts was represented mostly by a tiny high school marching band, I found a love for music and theatre.…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…

While some people may think of event management as a degree in party planning, it is gaining credibility as a legitimate career. The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council created event management standards which also led to the definition of exactly what an event is (Robertson, 2015). An event is “a social form that organizes interaction in a distinctive way” or the “gathering of three or more people who agree to assemble for a purpose ostensibly related to the functioning of an organization or group” (Beaulie, 2004). According to Michael Auerbach, “in 2006 there were 51,000 event planners in the U.S. and 39% of those were within an event planning company” which demonstrates the grand size of the industry and its obvious importance to society (2015). The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in event planning.…
