Army Leadership Values

In the World, there are many types of leaders that are composed of different characteristics. A leader has to be well balanced. As a leader in the United States Army, it is a big challenge to be well-balanced. In my experience, I found three values that help me the most to be well balanced: faith, family, and respect.

Faith in God is really important for me as a leader. Believing in God gives me the strength and the wisdom to make the best decisions in my every day life, furthermore helping me every time I have to be resilient. God gives me the guidance to be a balanced leader. Faith in fellow soldiers is also really important because we have to believe in each other to create that crucial team environment and create that family trust. Me

My leadership philosophy includes all of the Army Values. The value I lean towards most is respect; treat others as you would want them to treat you. Stewardship of the Army Profession and Civilian-Military Relations There are five core characteristics that compose the Army profession; trust, honorable service, military expertise, stewardship, and esprit de corps (Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 1, The Army Profession, 2015, p. 6-1). While all are critical to maintaining a healthy Army, stewardship, as described in ADRP 1 chapter 6, is the central tenant I believe keeps the other four alive. Stewardship is the act of taking care of something. Without it, other core values merely come and go. Like a garden that has good soil, light, and water, it will all still wither away without a gardener to routinely provide more water, turn the soil, and prune the plants.…

The first thing I thought of to answer this question is my time in the military. In the Air Force, we are taught to follow three core values. These three core values are integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do. I try to especially follow the last one, excellence in all we do, in most aspects of my life. I have tried to follow this so far in my time at CCU with my previous classes, and plan to continue as I complete my last few classes towards my degree in Information Systems Management.…

According to ADP 6-22, character, presence, intellect, and development are the main attributes a leader should possess. Character, I believe is one of the most important attributes for a military leader to have. Leading a group of soldiers is different than leading a group of coworkers. Soldiers are away from their families, putting their life on the line for our country, therefor they need more from a leader than to just make the decisions. They need someone who demonstrates the army values (ADP 6-22).…

A leader who is a combination of these three elements is considered to be a productive and potent leader.
